 The Museum In Maxwell – Maxwell, Iowa

This museum consists of two buildings on the mainMaxwell museum.jpg street of town and a machine shed. In the south building visitors can look at examples of old-time establishments such as: general store, millinery shop, school room, church, post office, and barber shop. Here also is housed a collection of rocks, fossils, and geodes. The north building contains displays of military memorabilia and uniforms, quilts and coverlets, and wedding and graduation dresses. Examples of a law office, print shop, and 1930s kitchen have been developed at this site. The machine shed houses a collection of early farm implements.

Admission – donations are helpful

    I used to take my 5th graders to the Maxwell Museum – it is Iowa’s best kept secret – rich in donations from citizens, the Maxwell Museum is well worth the visit! It is just awesome!

  3. Always fascinating. The staff does an amazing job displaying rare items from the area and beyond. A must see if in the area.
