This is a centrally-located theme park just outside of Des Moines in Altoona, Iowa, with “adventures” for all ages. The structures in the park recreate late 19th –and early 20th-century Iowa. The rides go from “mild” to “wet-and-wild.” There are 4 great roller coasters, and one can experience a white-water raft ride. Family entertainment shows—music and dancing–are located throughout the park Nearby are both a hotel and a campground. This facility is situated near the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino.
Adventurelad is home of some of the greatest wooden roller coasters of all time. The Outlaw reaches a height of 70 feet with a 67 foot drop and a top speed of 48 miles per hour. The Tornado reaches a height of 80 feet with a 76 foot drop and a top speed of 55 miles per hour. Two of the greatest roller coaster thrill rides of all time!
2006 brings two new rides to Adventureland, including “The Splash Over,” a new dimension in rides from Italy. The Splash Over combines the high flying thrills of a spectacular park ride with the fun and excitement of a water ride. Riders will be propelled head over heels through a sky-high curtain of water that randomly provides everything from a light mist to a good old-fashioned soaking. Adventureland CEO Jan Krantz said, “combining a thrill ride with water features is the most fun you can have all in one ride”.
