 ragbrai_1.gifRagbrai is always the last full week of July.  The cost for a week-long rider is $140; a week-long non-rider fee is $35 with the vehicle permit being $35.  If you wnat to enter just for one day you can get a daily wristband for $25 a day.  The costs cover wristbands, route marking signage, baggage transportation, camping accommodations, discounts, sag wagon services, emergency medical services, traffic control, souvenier patch, daily route maps and entries into drawing for a free bike for riders and other prizes for support vehicle drivers.

The seven-day total mileage for RAGBRAI averages 472 miles while the daily mileage averages 68 miles. There is an optional century loop on one day each year for cyclists wanting the challenge.  The communities for the 2009 ride will include: Council Bluffs > Red Oak (first day), Red Oak . Greenfield (day 2), Greenfield > Indianola (day 3), Indianola > Chariton (day 4), Chariton > Ottumwa (day 5), Ottumwa > Mt. Pleasant (day 6) and Mt. Pleasant > Burlington (day 7, final day).

Entry postmark deadline is April 1, 2009. Your entry form, payment and waiver must be submitted prior to or on the deadline to be eligible for the lottery. If an individual or group elects to submit a manual (paper) entry, the entry including the signed original waiver(s) and payment must be complete, correct and dated no later than Feb. 15, 2009.

RAGBRAI is limited to 8,500 week-long riders and 1,500 daily riders. Entries can exceed the number of riders allowed, so a random computer lottery takes place after all of the entries are entered in the computer. Lottery results are available online on May 1, 2009.
