This 1882 Italianate Victorian home was the residence of the first Henry A. Wallace from 1895 until 1916 while Wallace was editor of Wallaces Farmer, a magazine devoted to agricultural and conservation information.
The home has been restored and now is a museum and the library of the second Henry A. Wallace, vice president during the second term of the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Exhibits include “Uncle Henry’s Des Moines, 1880-1920,” the Wallace Era of Wallaces Farmer, and a multimedia, interactive time line of the life of Henry A. Wallace.
The home is available for group tours, meetings, and special events.
