Blank Park Zoo – Des Moines, Iowa In the southwest part of Des Moines, Iowa, on twenty-two acres is located a beautifully landscaped zoological park. Over 800 animals from five continents are exhibited in naturalistic settings.

Special attractions include a new “Great Cats” exhibits in which are shown such animals as: snow leopards, tigers, and lions. Visitors can directed to view African species on a special boardwalk and to do an “Australian Walkabout” to look at species native to Australia. To watch the antics of otters in the water, a special underwater viewing area has been developed. Train and camel rides are offered.

A new Discovery Center has recently been constructed

Children (under 3 years) – Free
Children (3 – 14 years) – $5.00
Adults (15 – 55 years) – $8.00
Senior Citizens (55+ years) – $6.00

Directions – from Army Post Road (U. S. Highway 5), turn south on SW Ninth or about 1 mile North of the Hwy 65 bypass and about 2 miles east of the Des Moines International Airport.

Zoo Hours are 10am – 4pm, Monday through Friday.
Night Eyes Hours: Thurs. & Fri 5:30pm – 8pm; Sat. & Sun. 1pm-8pm

Regular Zoo Hours return on October 29.
October-April 10am-4pm (Open Wednesday thru Sunday November through Feburary)
(Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day)
