Barn Quilts of Grundy County – Grundy Center, Iowa
Enjoy traveling this 64-mile loop through the towns and fields of Grundy County with a showcase of colorful quilt blocks painted on the sides of barns and other farm buildings.
The Quilt Blocks are painted by a number of different people. A paid student painted most of them but others from the community and the barn owners have also been involved in creating these delightful visions.
The blocks are 8′ x 8′ and 12′ x 12′. depending on how close they are to the road so that people can see them clearly and dependent on the space available on the barns.
A committee of local quilters came together to choose the quilt patterns that have been used for the project. Their objective was to find patterns that were representative of Grundy County, rural life, agriculture, etc.
The barns were choosen by a committee driving around Gundy County and looking for barns that were easily visible from the road and where the owner would be cooperative.
