This is a fabulous opportunity for those that want to enjoy the camping experience but are not able to go to the standard facility.  Easter Seals offers boating, swimming, horseback riding, the campfire experience and the opportunity to make new friends and gain new talents.  All this while under the supervision of camp councilors dedicated to making the experience one that brings smiles to the faces of the campers.

Program Descriptions
Teen Day Camp
8 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday

Easter Seals Teen Day Camp provides recreational opportunities to teenagers between the ages of 13 and 21.  Teen Day Camp offers many new activities this year with goals to empower teens to the fullest of their potential.  Teens will participate in all the traditional camp programming as well as specific activities that are geared toward their age group and day trips to various locations around Des Moines.  Teen Day Camp also focuses on providing opportunities for campers to develop social, life, cooking and leisure skills.  Teen Day Camp has a limit of 30 teens per week.

Summer Day Camp

8 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday

Summer Day Camp is an integrated recreational opportunity for children entering the first grade through age 12.  Each week, participants will have the opportunity to experience all the traditions of camp – swimming, sports, horseback riding, etc., as well as theme-based activities.  Lunch and snacks are provided.

Resident Camp

Check-in Sunday 3 – 5 pm; Check-out Friday 2 – 3 pm

Camp Sunnyside’s Resident Camping program is a one week recreation program.  Campers spend their days having fun swimming, horseback riding, doing arts and crafts, and much more.  At night, campers reside in our air-conditioned cabins or spend the evening camping out under the stars.  All Resident Camp sessions are structured around weekly themes.  Non-disabled siblings and friends of Resident campers may attend Resident camp sessions with their siblings or friends.

Rainbow Connection is back again for persons of all ages on the autism spectrum.  New and improved activities have been specifically tailored for persons with autism.  These structured activities offer an opportunity for social growth and independence.  This week will be shortened due to the Independence Day Holiday.

Iowa Braille Schools Camp – Camp Explore – is offered to all persons in Iowa with visual impairments.  Easter Seals Iowa is collaborating with Iowa Braille School to make this a special session designed only for persons with visual impairments.  Please contact Phyllis McGowan or Kathy Hintz at Iowa Braille Schools for registration information and financial support.  They can be reached at 319.472.5221 or 1.800.645.4579.
