Barn Quilts of Grundy County - Grundy Center, Iowa
Enjoy traveling this 64-mile loop through the towns and fields of Grundy County with a showcase of colorful quilt blocks painted on the sides of barns and other farm buildings.
The Quilt Blocks are painted by a number of different people. A paid student painted most of them but others from the community and the barn owners have also been involved in creating these delightful visions.

On this working ranch in Newton, Iowa, visitors can take a relaxing trail ride through one-hundred acres of woodland. Here they can watch different types of wildlife as they forage for food and travel around the area. The owner of the ranch will arrange for hay rides.
AIRCRAFT SUPER-MARKET DeSoto, Iowa
Just outside of DeSoto, Iowa, visitors are able to browse through a wide assortment of ultra-light and light aircraft. A 3,500 square foot, air conditioned, heated, two level, carpeted showroom within 50 feet of Interstate 80, the busiest interstate in the Midwest. They can also view videos that give the history of each type of plane.
Adventureland - Altoona, Iowa (Des Moines)
This is a centrally-located theme park just outside of Des Moines in Altoona, Iowa,with “adventures” for all ages. The structures in the park recreate late 19th –and early 20th-century Iowa. These feature Main Street, River City, Last Frontier, Alpine Village, and a typical Iowa farm. Visitors can partake in over 100 rides, shows, and attractions. The rides go from “mild” to “wet-and-wild.” There are 4 great roller coasters, and one can experience a white-water raft ride.
Adel School - Adel, Iowa
The present home of the Adel Historical Museum, this building began its life as the first two-story brick schoolhouse in Adel. It was built in 1857 and remained a school until 1870. The building also served as the home of Leroy Lambert, an early community leader; then from 1898 until 1943 the Thorntons ran a boarding and rooming house there.
Boone And Scenic Valley Railroad - Boone, Iowa Visitors can hop aboard a train beginning in Boone with vintage railroad cars and take a fifteen or twenty-two mile round-trip. This excursion wends its way through the beautiful Des Moines River valley and takes one over two bridges—one trestle is 156-foot high. Weekdays the nine-car train is pulled by a diesel engine. On weekends and holidays, The Iowan, said to be the first Chinese steam locomotive in the United States, does the work.
The Wolf Train and the Dinner Train trips are each twenty-two miles round-trip. Riders should allow at least two hours for a trip.
