Tama County Historical Museum - Toledo, Iowa

The county museum is located in a former jail, built in 1870 and used until 1970. Displayed inside are Native American and pioneer artifacts, such as tools, utensils, toys, musical instruments, furniture, clothing, military uniforms. Included in the Native American display are unique examples of clothing, bead work, and paintings that relate to the local Meskwaki tribe. The rugged terrain and forested hills lured Czech immigrants to this area and one of their log cabins has been moved and re-erected near the jail.

The historic Hammond covered bridge was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It is a timber and iron, 8-panel Howe through truss structure with a single, 78-foot long span. Two more modern approach spans bring the total bridge length to 178 feet. The roadway deck width is 13.3 feet.

International Center For Rural Culture And Art - Allerton, Iowa The 93 acre site just outside of Allerton, Iowa, is home to a fully restored 1912 round barn, 1887 country church and 1868 country school. The fully restored 50-foot diameter barn, originally built in 1912, features a spectacular loft, free of any support columns due to its web-like construction. Restoraton of the 1869 country schoolhouse is complete and restoration is underway on the 1887 New York Christian Church.
