Millstream Brewing Company – Amana Colonies, Iowa
Up until 1884 the art of brewing beer had been practiced in the Amana Colonies; then no brewing was done for the next hundred years. In 1985 three citizens of the area decided to build a small brewery to produce small quantities of hand-brewed beer similar to that brewed earlier here and in Europe. One of America’s master brewers helped with the brewery design. Now, three brews had been developed—Millstream Lager, Schild Brau Amber, and Millstream Wheat Beer. Oldtime Root Beer is now also being brewed. No chemicals, additives, or preservatives are being used to any of the brewery’s products.
Visitors can view the brewing and bottling areas and the lagering cellars.
