At Brucemore, tour the magnificent 21-room mansion, stroll the gardens, pack a picnic, and attend outdoor theatre. Brucemore, a National Trust Historic Site in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a museum and so much more. As a community cultural center, Brucemore’s 26-acres are alive with concerts, festivals, performances, and activities.

Brucemore’s story is about hundreds of immigrants drawn to Cedar Rapids to work in the families’ businesses. It is about new technology and the expansion of railroads that brought an economic boom to the Midwest.

Over nearly a century, three wealthy families—industrialists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, boosters, and friends—made Brucemore their home.

Visitors explore the families and the periods in which they lived at Brucemore through an introductory video, photographs, artifacts, and home movies. The main exhibit, "The Families of Brucemore," provides an overview of the estate from its creation in 1884 to its beginnings as a National Trust Historic Site and community cultural center. Changing exhibits have focused on specific issues including the servants, the history of the Douglas family’s business, childhood during the early 1900s, and Brucemore’s recent history as a historic site. The two exhibits are open during Visitor Center hours, Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for viewing the exhibits.
