Colorful gardens in all seasons! The signature garden, the tropical Sun Garden, is one of the world’s most unique conservatories and located right in Davenport, Iowa. The 6,444 square foot Sun Garden features islands of gardens, a beautiful 14-foot waterfall, reflecting pools with Japanese Koi fish and a 70-foot skylight peak with ferns, palms, bromeliads, orchids, frangipani, bird of paradise, banana plants and hundreds of other exotic tropical wonders!
OLD SHOT TOWER - Dubuque, Iowa
Description – This tower was built in 1856 for the molding of lead shot. (It was an excellent source for ammunition during the Civil War.) It is located on the riverfront. It is one of the few similar structures left in the country. The base is constructed of native limestone and the top 40-feet is brick. The structure is 150 feet high and made an excellent fire lookout site.
National Farm Toy Museum - Dyersville, Iowa
The National Farm Toy Museum features thousands of toys and exhibits between its two floors. Tractors, implements, trucks, miniature farm dioramas, toy manufacturing information, and pedal tractors are on display around the museum. Also displayed are two Doug Schlesier sculptures, plaques honoring inductees into the National Farm Toy Hall of Fame, and a plaque honoring the founders of the world’s largest farm toy manufacturer headquartered in Dyersville, the Ertl Company.
Mines Of Spain Recreation Area - Dubuque, Iowa
The Mines of Spain Recreation Area and E.B.Lyons Interpretive and Nature Center are located on 1380 acres of beautiful wooded and prairie land just south of Dubuque, IA. The area has been designated as a National Historic Landmark and includes Julien Dubuque’s Monument at a point just above where Catfish Creek meets the Mississippi. One of Iowa’s "Watchable Wildlife Areas," it features the E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center which serves as the Visitor Center and the Park Office.
