OLD SHOT TOWER - Dubuque, Iowa

Description – This tower was built in 1856 for the molding of lead shot. (It was an excellent source for ammunition during the Civil War.) It is located on the riverfront. It is one of the few similar structures left in the country. The base is constructed of native limestone and the top 40-feet is brick. The structure is 150 feet high and made an excellent fire lookout site.

National Farm Toy Museum - Dyersville, Iowa

The National Farm Toy Museum features thousands of toys and exhibits between its two floors. Tractors, implements, trucks, miniature farm dioramas, toy manufacturing information, and pedal tractors are on display around the museum. Also displayed are two Doug Schlesier sculptures, plaques honoring inductees into the National Farm Toy Hall of Fame, and a plaque honoring the founders of the world’s largest farm toy manufacturer headquartered in Dyersville, the Ertl Company.

Whereas in the United States the Luxembourgers adopted the American way of building houses (frame houses, brick buildings), a few islands remained where Luxembourgers continued to construct in the traditional way. Such concentrations can be found in St. Donatus, Jackson Co, IA, where the whole village is built the Luxembourg way.
