FENELON PLACE ELEVATOR COMPANY - Dubuque, Iowa

Description – This is the world’s shortest, steepest scenic incline railway and it lifts passengers 189 feet from Fourth Street to Fenelon Place. The two cars always leave the upper and lower stations simultaneously, and pass at the midpoint of the track. They counterbalance each other so that the engine needs to supply only enough power to overcome friction and the different weights of the passengers in the cars
From the higher end of the railway visitors can view three states (Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin) and the Mississippi River. This railway was originally built in 1882 and is 296 feet in length.
