Riverside Gardens – Monticello, Iowa – Located on the north side of Monticello, Riverside Gardens is a city park that was built by volunteers and is maintained by volunteers. The gardens are a showcase for the diversity of flowers available for today’s gardens and home to many local species of plants.

Riverside Gardens is tucked between residential areas near the scenic Maquoketa River. It includes more than 30 flower beds, a picnic area, a gazebo, a wishing well, nature trails, and a wetland area.

An interpretive nature trail encircles the wetland area with signs indicating the importance of wetland to water quality and identifying plants and animals in the ecosystem. A wildlife biologist has estimated the wetland could benefit at least 17 major species of animals who depend on Iowa’s dwindling wetland for survival.
