The Bix Festival – Davenport, Iowa
This fabulous festival will have your wishing for more jazz! The opportunity to hear the greats and the up and coming jazz musicians is something every jazz lover will treasure from one year to the next.
The festival is in honor of the memory of Bix Beiderbecke, a famed jazz musician born in 1903 and dying in 1931. By this time he had a huge impact on the jazz world with his talent for playing the music that others could only dream of attaining.
Each year the festival, fondly referred to by many as the "Bix Bash," draws thousands of fans from throughout the U.S., and even foreign countries where Bix is known and revered as a jazz legend. 2009 will be the 38th annual event.
Bix Beiderbecke was the subject of three films, at least five books, countless magazine and newspaper articles, and conversation wherever jazz fans and musicians gather and this continues to this day. HIs talent and his tormented life make the story of jazz ring with emotion. It is said that "Once you hear him blow four notes on that horn, your life will never be the same."
