Winnebago Industries Visitor Center - Forest City, Iowa
Forest City is the home of the largest motor home manufacturing facility in the world, Winnebago Industries, Inc. Founded in 1958, this company was the first to build motor homes in an automotive-style assembly line system. They build five different brands of motor homes: Winnebago, Itasca, Vectra, Luxor, and Rialta.
Wilson Preserve - Traer, Iowa
This preserve has been developed as a tall grass prairie reconstruction. It was begun in 1990, and is now a living museum of 75 prairie flowers and 10 varieties of grasses on two acres. Also on the site are a butterfly garden and an Iowa native tree area. In the latter visitors will find woodland wildflowers in season. There are wildflowers in bloom from April to November—they are at their best in July and August.
Vintage Iron - Stratford, Iowa
In an old automobile dealer’s building in Stratford, visitors can explore agricultural heritage through displays of restored vintage tractors in one showroom. Toys and other farming memorabilia are displayed in a second showroom. The gift shop sells rural and rustic gifts.
Timberland Museum - Forest City, Iowa
This is a privately owned museum in Forest City and it has a number of Native American artifacts belonging to tribes that had quartered in Winnebago and Hancock Counties. They also have arrowheads used by prehistoric men dating back to 10,000 B. C.
The Little Brown Church in the Vale - Nashua, Iowa
This church is built of Limestone was quarried locally and by 1860 the foundation was laid. The church is well known for weddings, bus tour groups and religious services.
The building was enclosed in 1862 and not one penny had been spent to build it. All of the materials and labor were donated by the members of the area that desired to have a church.
SURF BALLROOM - Clear Lake, Iowa
Description – This historic ballroom has been home to the big bands in its earlier days and continues to have big-name acts (rock and roll, jazz, blues, and big bands playing their traditional music) come to it. The ballroom was the site of Buddy Holly’s last concert in February of 1959. He died in a plane crash north of Clear Lake following that concert. The ballroom observes the anniversary of that performance each year.
Seven B Ranch - Webster City, Iowa
