Ackley Heritage Center – Ackley, Iowa
Ackley hosts the heritage of the area with a visit to the corner drugstore with working soda fountain, and see displays and artifacts.
The Heritage Center – Center offices and research areas are located in the upper level of the Municipal Building on the corner of State and Main streets. Here you will find a large photographic collection, many prints showing the history of Ackley, and displays featuring the lives of the early settlers.
The German people from Ostfriesland, Germany settled the area in and around Ackley. Those German pioneers’ hard work, self reliance, and commitment to family laid the foundations for the strong community that Ackley is today.
The Heritage Center was established in 1987 for the purpose of preserving local history and currently occupies the second level of the Municipal Building in downtown Ackley, Iowa. It has been said that not a week goes by without some new additions to the Center’s growing collection. You can find many interesting artifacts that display past lifestyles, a vast collection of photographs documenting Ackley life and growth, and friendly volunteers to put you in touch with mountains of research materials.
