Cresco Opera House/Theatre – Cresco, Iowa
The present Cresco, Iowa Theatre was built in 1914 and called the Cresco Opera House. It was there that traveling repertoire companies would come to town and perform in the time between 1914 and the late 1920s. The opera house has been restored to its original grandeur through careful preservation efforts, including the chandelier in the main lobby and a unique decorative plaster relief scheme. Unlike many opera houses in Iowa, this one is still in use. Residents can attend daily movies and the stage is available for live performances put on by the Cresco Community Theatre. The Cresco Fine Arts Council continues to arrange for various types of performances there.
