BIG SPRINGS TROUT HATCHERY – Elkader, Iowa
This is a state-owned fish hatchery that has 24 spring-fed raceways. These house rainbow, spotted, and brown trout as they are developing. The trout are raised to stockable size and then released to conservation boards in northeast Iowa who are watching over 21 different streams. Special tours and/or presentations on Iowa’s trout program, fish production, water quality, and acid rain are available at the hatchery.
