George Maier Rural Heritage Center - Elkhader, Iowa

Come and visit this 1919 sale barn and see the wonderful array of collectables that have been carefully acquired by George Mair to share with the visitors that want to taste a little history while on their Iowa vacation.  The collection will take you all the way back to how life was in the 1800’s in rural Iowa.  Life was in some ways far more complicated then and yet so much simpler.  The hard work, the family bonds all helped to create the environment of Elkader that is still prevalent today.

The old Elkader Sale Barn adjacent to the City Park has been rebuilt to house a portion of Mr. Maier’s extensive collection. Additional display buildings are being planned for the future. Special tours arranged by appointment.
