Andy Williams Birthplace – Wall Lake, Iowa

There is a simple two-story white frame house overlooking a junction in Wall Lake, Iowa, that is “note-worthy” to those who like the tunes made famous by singer Andy Williams—it is his birthplace and childhood home.

Built in 1890 by his great-grandfather, it has been restored to reflect the late 1920s and 1930s when Andy’s family lived there. Andy’s father worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and was also the choir director at one of the local churches; his mother played piano at the church, too. (The family moved to Des Moines in 1935 after the parents recognized the vocal talents of their four sons; Andy was eight at the time. The boys performed on the radio.)

The birthplace home had been owned by others from 1935 until 1989 when the local historical society bought it and began the restoration process. The furnishings in the L-shaped structure are representative to the time, but none are original to the family.

Andy has donated photographs and a few other items; his fan club has given others. In the home items of local historical interest are also displayed.
