The Kirchner Log Cabin was built in 1867, some 9 years after Clay County was officially organized. It was located above what was the original county seat in the rolling hills that surrounded the town. The cabin still sits on its original site.

Description – The Christian Kirchner Home was built in 1867 shortly after the first settlers made their way to northwest Iowa. This was the first frame dwelling in Clay County and it still stands on its original site. Behind it is a 60- by 100-foot museum that is filled with horse-drawn farm equipment and machines of years ago.
