Sioux City Public Museum - Sioux City, Iowa
The Kirchner Park Museum - Peterson, Iowa The Christian Kirchner home is a typical Dutch Colonial structure. Built in 1867, it was the first frame house in Clay County.
The Kirchner’s were the first settlers in the Peterson area, their home remained in the family until 1971 when it was deeded to the city to be administered by the Peterson Heritage, Inc.
In Milford, IA, visitors can view thousands of historic photos and advertisements that cover the Iowa Lakes region. This has always been a “resort” type area with summer sunshine and water sports and winter wonderlands full of all types of “fun” so that this would be an unusual collection. Also to be found on site are antiques and unusual farm and yard items.
Sac City hosts the only existing “complete” Chautauqua structure in the state. It was built in 1908, in the heyday of this type of education and entertainment.
