Heritage Days - Rock Rapids, Iowa A celebration at the beginning of summer with a parade, entertainment and more.
The events start out with the crowning of the Miss Rock Rapids and Little Miss Rock Rapids winners. From there on the activities really pick up the pace with things like the "Kiss the Pig" contest (Uck!!), the Road Race, the parade and all of the vendors with thier wares for you to look over and perhaps buy.
Grotto Of The Redemption - West Bend, Iowa
This is a complex of nine different grottos in West Bend, Iowa, each one portraying a different scene from the life of Christ. The fourteen Stations of the Cross are also depicted. The grottos were built using stones and gems from all over the world. It was started in 1912 and now covers nearly a whole city block. The materials used in its construction are considered to be the world’s most complete man-made collection of minerals, fossils, shells, and petrifications in one place.

One of the longest running Flight Breakfasts in Iowa is held at the Estherville Airport on July 4th every year. All that attend enjoy pancakes, sausage, airplane displays, air games, and entertainment.

Camp Algona POW Museum - Algona, Iowa The camp consisted of 178 buildings for the Prisoners of War from Germany. The 287 acres is just 2 miles west of Algona. It housed up to 10,000 German prisoners of war from 1944 through 1946.
The prisoners were paid $.10 an hour for their work in the economic development of the area. At the museum there are letters from prisoners stating that they were well treated while at the camp.
The Buena Vista County Museum is located in the downtown area of Storm Lake in a 1920 building constructed for the sale of Ford automobiles. Artifacts relating the region’s past have been preserved and some are on display.
Each year a new exhibit relating to a special theme is mounted; one such centered around sports, games, and recreation. Another dealt with educational opportunities in the area.
In this town of Battle Creek with less than one thousand persons, visitors can look at over displays of 4,000 natural history specimens of both native and foreign animals and birds, including a full-mount African elephant, giraffe, and tiger. Also there is a replica limestone cave with 100 feet of trails. One can also look at specimens from nearby rivers, including a 545-pound clam.
