Belva Deer Recreation Area - Sigourney, Iowa
This 1669-acre site is Keokuk county’s largest and most heavily used recreation area. Its facilities include three picnic shelters, four playground areas, a number of camping spots—some with electricity, others quite primitive, outdoor classroom, eight miles of hiking trails, four ponds, horseback trails, public hunting areas, and a restored one-room schoolhouse. The ponds are stocked with bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. No outboard motors are allowed, but on the larger pond boats with electric motors are permitted.
