i WAS BORN AND RAISED IN OTTUMWA IOWA, MY VERY FIRST AIR PLANE RIDE WAS IN A OLD AIRCRAFT FORD TRI MOTOR I WAS ABOUT 6 YEARS OLD AND FINALLY MY DAD SAID ALL RIGHT IF WERE GOING TO DIE WE WIILL ALL GO TOGETHER SO HE PURCHASED US A TICKET. WE FLEW OVER THE HYDRO ELECTRIC PLANT AND RIVER . I HAVE NEVER STOPPED LOVING AIRCRAFT SINCE FLYING OFF THAT OLD GRASS FIELD. EVEN AFTER THE NAVAL STATION WAS BUILT OUT IN THE CORN FIELD, BUT CONSEQENTLY I ENDED UP IN THE ARMY. WITH BOBBY BUFFINGTON AND WEERE SENT TO FT RILEY, KANSAS. HE GOT SHOT AND I WAS STUCK IN THE ARMY WENT TO OKINAWA THEN DIRECTLY TO KOREA FOR 14 MONTHS OF HELL. 80 YEARS OLD AND STILL RECOVERING FROM THAT ONE. GUESS I WILL TAKE THAT ONE TO THE GRAVE WITH ME. MY UNIIT WAS THE 29TH INF. REGT. LASTED 4-1/2 HOURS 18000 OF US GONE IN THAT SHORT TIME. UNBELEIVEABLE. BUT TRUE NOW VERY FEW OF US LEFT ALIVE OUT OF THAT UNIT. MISS MY OLD HOME TOWN OF OTTUMWA,
