Description – At Midwest Old Threshers, and the Midwest Central Railroad are comprised of volunteer groups. These two groups have preserved and operate two historic types of transportation. The Midwest Central Railroad has over 8 pieces of narrow gauge rolling stock on the grounds, some of them as old as 1891. Some of these are operated by volunteer train personnel and conductors all day long during the Reunion which is five days long ending on Labor Day. The volunteers also meet during the year to work on the restoration of the various pieces of equipment.
The Midwest Central Railroad brings the excitement of rail travel 100 years ago to life behind authenic steam powered trains. Join us in our enjoyable and educationally-rich endeavors for a future full of steam in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
The mission is to preserve and commemorate railway heritage for the educational benefit and enjoyment of future generations. They aim to accomplish this through live action of our engines and rolling stock as well as educational displays and tours of their operation.
The trains also operate on special occasions, such as Fourth of July, Boy Scout Jamborees, antique train conventions, and Ghost Trains Rides at Halloween time and the Polar Express during the holdiay season. The train route takes visitors from the Heritage Museums and main office side of Midwest Old Threshers to the village at the north end of the complex known as Snipe Run. An old-time depot is part of that town.
The Midwest Electric Railway’s rolling stock consists of 8 antique streetcars, some dating back to 1910. These cars have been renovated by separate group of volunteers. These trolleys are often operated during the summer, especially on weekends. Their route starts at the trolley depot near to the Heritage Museum on the main grounds of the Midwest Old Threshers complex, crosses the road and goes into the campground area, stops near the Log Village area at the southwest corner of the campgrounds, loops around more of the camping area, stops near the Theatre Museum and lets passengers off back at the depot.
