SWEET CORN FESTIVAL – West Point, Iowa This annual four-day event takes place on the town square and runs from Thursday through Sunday inclusive, over the second weekend of August.
Nearly 25,000 people decend on West Point to eat the wonderful sweet corn furnished by the community. The West Point Community Club is the primary host and sponsor of the annual West Point Sweet Corn Festival. The celebration will mark the 55th year in 2007!
The corn is all-you-can-eat, hot-buttered and FREE sweet corn, along with FREE stage entertainment. For a minimal charge, barbecue porkchop or chicken dinners are also served, complementing numerous other food sales sponsored by area organizations. The festival additionally includes Archway Midway (rides and entertainments), arts and craft tents, bingo, 5K and 10K run, queen crowning, children’s contests, tractor pulls, city parade, and teen dance.
How does all this corn get shucked? At the Shuckfest! Shuckfest will be on Wednesday, August 8, 2007
Lee County Bank and Trust sponsers the Shuckfest and it is hosted by Merschman Seeds. Shuckfest is held the Wednesday before the festival. There is nearly approximately 17 tons of sweet corn shucked for the festival.
