Iowa Wesleyan College – Mount Pleasant, Iowa
Located in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa – Iowa Wesleyan College, founded in 1842, is the oldest, church-related, degree granting institution west of the Mississippi. Many of its early buildings exhibit various styles of architecture and are still in use as classrooms.
This is a private four-year liberal arts college of the United Methodist Church. The college hosts the honor of including Pioneer Hall and Old Main on the National Register of Historic Places. The chapel on the campus is under going a complete renovation. There are new living quarters, Nemitz Hall, on the campus and the newer Howe Activity Center.
The college has undergone a huge building and updating drive to enhance the learning experience for the students.
Currently there are only two active chapters of teh Greek Life on campus, the Iowa Alpha chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity which has been on the campus since 1871 and the Beta chapter of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, wich has been on campus since 1902 and is the oldest chapter of Alpha Xi Delta in the country.
Of course, the P.E.O. Sisterhood was also founded at Iowa Wesleyan College on January 21, 1869.
