Allis Chalmers Tractor and Farm Museum - Griswold, Iowa
A collection of 39 tractors made by AC from the 1914 model 10-18 (second oldest AC tractor known to exist) to the 1972 model 220 including Rumely 6, Rumely Do-All, United and M crawler with Hough loader, combines, plows, disc, baler, and early farming & household appliances. William P. Hepburn House - Clarinda, Iowa although closed to the public, this house has historical significance to the United States.
Willia P. Hepburn was responsible for the Hepburn Act which enacted (on June 29, 1906) the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) the power to set maximum railroad rates and led to the discontinuation of free passes to loyal shippers. In addition, the ICC could view the railroads’ financial records, a task simplified by standardized bookkeeping systems.
Union County Visitors Center - Creston, Iowa
The founder of Phillips Petroleum Company grew up near Creston and a refurbished 1931 brick Phillips 66 gas station has been turned into an excellent place to “fill up” with information about the area.
Creston/Union County’s Tourism & Information Center located on Highway 34 and Park Street, houses information and scrapbooks about the Phillips family and information on Creston & Union County’s many attractions, upcoming events and celebrations.
Union County Historical Village And Museum - Creston, Iowa
The county is developing an 1890s village in McKinley Park. The buildings are furnished with period pieces. The village is composed of 16 buildings including a general store, church, school, railroad caboose and water tower, harness shop, barber shop, blacksmith shop, fire station, machine building, mill house, log cabin, house and 1896 barn. A museum is set a short distance apart, so as not to detract from the village aspect. A caboose has been moved to the area.
Triple “s” Exotic Animal Park - Mount Aryre, Iowa
At this zoo in Mount Ayr viewers can walk through the exhibits or they can drive around the area. All types of animals, including lions, tigers, bears, and monkeys, have been brought to this park.
Three Mile Lake - Afton, Iowa was named one of the top ten fishing lakes in Iowa.
The small town of Afton offers a wide varieity of opportunities for those traveling through the southwestern section of Iowa. There are "Lawn Chair" nights on Tuesday evenings where the local community gathers in the city park to enjoy music and the farmers market. This goes on from June through August. What a wonderful way to spend an evening, remembering how it was in years gone by in many smaller communities, the difference being, Afton still does it!
