Kanesville Tabernacle – Council Bluffs, Iowa
A 40-by-60 log cabin replica in Counceil Bluffs of the tabernacle used by the Mormons has been built near the site where the original structure stood. It was here that Brigham Young was sustained president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1847 and the building served nearly 1,000 that year. In that original setting, such events as voting, tuition-school graduation ceremonies, and other cultural activities took place for the nearly 7,000 Mormons who called the area home until they left in 1852 to join Young in Utah. There is a visitor center nearby which features historical films and displays about the westward migration of pioneers on the Mormon Trail.
