Swan Lake - Carroll, Iowa

Swan Lake, a 116 acre man-made lake, is located three miles south of Carroll, Iowa, in Carroll County. Before the 1983-1985 restoration, the lake had a maximum depth of 6 feet and an average depth of 3 feet. This produced a poor fishery due to frequent winterkill. Restoration consisted of draining, mechanical dredging, and construction of 10 fishing jetties and an enclosed fishing shelter- the first of its type in Iowa.

Swan Lake State Park is a 510 acre area with tent and trailer camping. Electrical hookups are available, as are drinking water fountains, showers, flush toilets, picnic grounds, cross country skiing, hiking, bridle and snowmobile trails, a swimming beach, baseball and winter sports, and a nature center.
